The unique combination of a well-developed mountain resort and a living historical town creates an elegant location. Virtually every house has its own story to tell, which can turn your vacation into a exploration of Bulgarian history.

The traditional Bansko taverns (Mehana), with their exceptional charm and style, offer local atmosphere with their cuisine and good selection of Bulgarian wines. Most of the local Mehanas offer live folk music, and there are many local cafes and bars. Discos and night clubs operate without a time limit, and usually close early in the morning.

Places to go

Apart from the beautiful Pirin Mountain, Bansko possesses rich historical sites. Remains of the ancient fortresses of Staroto Gradishte are just four kilometres west, the Ulen site is along the Demqnica river flow and nearby at Staroto Gradishte there are Thracian mound hills.

There's a lot to see in the town of Bansko itself, too. With around 120 cultural and history monuments there's a lot to explore, and souvenir shops offer creations by local artists and smiths.

South of Bansko is the National Park Pirin, included in the UNESCO list for cultural and natural sightseeing. The park is rich with lakes, waterfalls, caves, venerable trees and historical sites. Bansko and neighbouring Dobrinishte are also famous for their mineral springs, the reserve Bayovi dupki- Djindjiritsa.
